Delphi Launches AI Digital Cloning Service

Delphi, an AI digital clone startup, announced Tuesday that its platform is open to the public. Users can now create a chatbot version of themselves by uploading videos, podcasts, and blog posts to its service. According to the startup, this will “create an accurate clone that talks, thinks, and even sounds just like you.” The chatbot clone is ideal for influencers and creators who wish to provide scalable 1-on-1 interactions with their audience.

“With Delphi, you can actively engage with — and learn from — the people you admire most,” founder and CEO Dara Ladjevardian wrote on X. “Because you are asking the questions and clarifications, every interaction is tailored to your specific needs and challenges, ensuring that each conversation is meaningful and relevant.”

“Current methods of engaging with experts are predominantly passive (YouTube, blogs, podcasts, comments sections, cold DMs) with little hope for a reply,” Ladjevardian added. “Delphi transforms the way the curious consume content by ensuring it adapts to new information and evolving worldviews.”

In September, Delphi announced $2.7 million in funding from Founders Fund general partner Keith Rabois and Lux Capital.

OpenAI will pay media giant Axel Springer to use its news stories in the startup’s products, an agreement being hailed as the “first of its kind,” according to the Wall Street Journal. Axel Springer will allow OpenAI to train its models on the news organization’s reporting. In return, ChatGPT users will gain access to fully-attributed summaries of news stories from the company’s outlets, including Politico and Business Insider.

“We are excited to have shaped this global partnership between Axel Springer and OpenAI — the first of its kind,” Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner said in a statement. “We want to explore the opportunities of AI-empowered journalism — to bring quality, societal relevance, and the business model of journalism to the next level.”

“This partnership with Axel Springer will help provide people with new ways to access quality, real-time news content through our AI tool,” Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI, said in a statement. “We are deeply committed to working with publishers and creators around the world and ensuring they benefit from advanced AI technology and new revenue models.”

The financial terms of the agreement were not made public.

U.K. Minister: No AI Legislation Until Technology Better Understood

(credit: Dominika GreguĆĄovĂĄ from Pexels)

U.K. Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Michelle Donelan said the British government will hold off on legislating AI until officials gain a deeper understanding of the technology. Donelan made these remarks while responding to questions from MPs before the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee.

“To properly legislate, we need to better understand the full capabilities of this technology,” Donelan said. “We don’t want to hastily legislate and risk making mistakes. Our goal is not to stifle innovation, but to ensure our tools enable us to effectively address the issue at hand, which fundamentally involves evaluating the models.”

In August, the committee issued a report warning that the U.K. risks being “left behind” if it does not respond to developments like the European Union's AI Act.

However, Donelan urged caution against enacting laws similar to the EU's, noting the negative feedback it received from AI leaders.

“We have seen the significant impact of such legislation; take the EU AI Act, for example, with its ramifications and the industry's response,” she said. “This situation is not as simple as legislation being the only tool in the toolbox – it certainly isn’t. There are downsides to legislation, such as the time it takes to implement.”
